Congratulations to Anna Wu, FAIA and Phil Szostak, FAIA!

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) elevated 112 architects to its prestigious

College of Fellows, an honor awarded to members who have made contributions of national significance to the profession.

Out of a membership of more than 86,000, there are fewer than 2,600 AIA members distinguished with the honor of fellowship. It is conferred on architects with at least 10 years of membership in the AIA who have made significant contributions in the following areas: the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession; the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; the building industry through leadership in the AIA and other related professional organizations; advancement of living standards of people through an improved environment; and to society through significant public service.

AIA Triangle is pleased to congratulate AIA Triangle members, Phil L. Szostak, FAIA and Anna A. Wu, FAIA.

Congratulations AIA Triangle 2009 Presidential Award Recipients!

Haven Peaden is an Associate Member of AIA Triangle. Haven joined the Winter Social- Architini Committee and immediately jumped in and helped. Haven was responsible for the design, purchase and packaging of the Architini napkins. In addition, she researched and reworked the posters so they would fit into inexpensive standard-size frames. Her support of the Winter Social before, during and after the function was one of the reasons it was the largest event ever provided by AIA Triangle. While volunteering so much time to AIA Triangle, Haven was also working full time at Clark Nexsen Architecture & Engineering, studying and aggressively taking the ARE exams. Haven has been an active member in YAF and mentors in the Mentoring Program. She has shown AIA Triangle her leadership skills and unending energy. Congratulations Haven for receiving the 2009 AIA Triangle Volunteer Award.

Richard Redfoot, AIA, has served on the 2009 Continuing Education Committee, and participated on 2 panel discussions this past year for AIA Triangle. As a sole practioner at The Redfoot Studio Architecture, P.C., Richard also feels that it is important to offer an opportunity for smaller firms to get together to discuss issues related to their type of practice. At this time, he is working on scheduling a casual monthly event for the smaller firms, encouraging all members to feel connected. Richard attends most Lunch and Learns and is a real advocate for the architectural community. He has also just accepted the nomination for the AIA Triangle Board of Directors. Congratulations Richard for receiving the 2009 AIA Triangle Volunteer Award.

BBH Design, P.A., has opened their doors for    countless AIA Triangle activities. In 2009 alone, they hosted 2 Lunch and Learns, the 2 Summer Lectures, all the Diversity Committee Meetings, the Architini- Winter Social Meetings, the New Theory Committee Meetings and more. Their space is centrally located making it easy for Triangle members to attend functions.

The Leadership at BBH encourages employees to be involved in AIAT activities and this is evident in the number of employees who participate and lead activities. They inspire employees to be involved, and lead by example. BBH always welcomes and supports AIA Triangle and, therefore, we are happy to commend them with the 2009 AIA Triangle Firm Award.

Duncan-Parnell, Inc. has been an AIA Triangle sponsor for 2 years. In 2009, they provided a sponsorship, and took on the task of developing and producing frames to showcase the napkin sketches for Architini. This project took several months and many hours to develop. The final product was perfect for the event and the napkin sketches raised more than $5000 for the NC State University AIA Triangle Scholarship. In addition, Duncan-Parnell staff helped the morning of the event setting up the framed sketches on the exhibit boards. AIA Triangle is pleased to provide Duncan Parnell with the 2009 AIA Triangle Sponsor Award.
