Mission:

The mission of AIA Triangle COTE is to promote the awareness of importance and necessity in environmentally sound, healthy, and energy efficient practice in architectural design among architects, architectural educators, students, and general public in the Triangle area and to support them to gain necessary knowledge and put the knowledge into their practice.


Goals:

  • Promote and implement a goal set by the National AIA of reducing by 50% the building and construction related fossil-fuel usage starting now and to net 0% energy use by 2010 among AIA Triangle Members.
  • Make good uses of activities and events planned or already established in AIA Triangle in order to reach those mentioned in the mission above and implement the mission among them.
  • Establish and maintain alliances with other COTE chapters and environmental organizations in North Carolina for efficient and reinforced implementation of the mission.

 On-Going and Accomplished Activities and Events:

  • Posting “50 Green Strategies that Cost Less” in Friday Facts
  • Monthly COTE meeting with technical presentation.
  • Establishment of a Green Design division in AIA Triangle Design Award (Establishment of local green award is recommended by the National AIA COTE)
  • 2030 Challenge presentation and event during AIA 150 week in April 2007.


Planned and Future Activities:

o Establishment of a coalition with other COTE chapters and environmental organizations in North Carolina to address legislative and policy related issues.

o Environmental book donation program (w/ Book Donation Committee)

o Identification of green and energy efficient design related continuing education

o opportunities in a local area and creation of data base (w/ Continuing Ed Committee)

o Co-sponsoring events with other organization such as USGBC, AIA NC COTE, and NCSEA.
