2007 Book Donation Program

The annual book donation program is now in its sixth year, and we are nearing a significant milestone. The Triangle Section's goal is to place at least one age-appropriate architectural book within all public schools in our ten-county area. In 2007, AIA Triangle plans to complete this goal by donating books to 60 elementary schools. The Section will contribute up to $500.00 out of its 2007 operating budget in order to make this happen, but we also need our members' financial support.

To date, the membership has donated a total of 237 books to elementary, middle, and high schools. All middle and high schools, and most elementary schools, have previously received one book. Sixty elementary schools have yet to receive a donation.

This year's text is "Skyscrapers", authored by Chris Oxlade. This marvelous book covers the world's most significant skyscrapers, leading young readers from our initial efforts to build to the sky, through major design epochs, to the present day.

The Section suggests members or member firms donate $30.00 to cover the cost of purchasing and delivering one book. If this amount isn't feasible, please give what you can - your donations will be supplemented by the Section's contribution. Donations will be accepted until October 25, 2007 at the Triangle Section office, 302 Versailles Dr., Cary, NC 27511. Please make your check payable to AIA Triangle.

Donors wishing to benefit a particular school or county will be accommodated on a first- come, first-served basis. Each book will include an acknowledgement plate that recognizes both the donor and the AIA Triangle Section.

After a total donation fund is established on October 25, 2007, books will be purchased and distributed to the schools. Thank you in advance for all of your current and past support.
